Turn Off Pro Power

Maybe I missed it or can't find the setting but is there a way to turn off the generator for Pro Power so it doesn't turn on each time you crank the truck? If you aren't using it the MPG is killed and it's kind of a hassle having to turn it off every time you get in. I'm sure I'm missing something.

What engine do you have! I have a hybrid, my ProPower doesn’t start in generator mode, only the 400W mode. I don’t think it really affects mpg, some have reported annoying fan noise with generator mode on, but I thought that was from the 2kW non hybrid system

I have the PB. Each time I get in I have turn off the generator mode. I just recently started turning it off when I get in and only done short trips. Before turning it off I was getting 19-20 MPG. When I turn it off I am getting 22-23 MPG.

Mine always defaults to on as well. I didn't know that it was actually affecting gas mileage.

Mine does not start up with generator mode on (meaning the "generator" button on the ProPower menu screen is greyed when I start).

The "Power" button to the left of "Generator" is on when I start, and I can turn it off, but it will be on again after another start up. Is that what you re experiencing?

That is exactly what I get as well. As mentioned above, the 400w mode is automatically on. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there is an inverter on these trucks since there is a generator. So if I am correct the generator is on whether in the full mode or not unless you turn it off with the power button. This would explain the additional tax on the system and decreased MPG. Of course, I could be completely off on my assumptions.

There is an inverter that supplies 120/240 volt alternating current to the outlets, from the HEV battery pack. A generator running on an accessory belt powered by the ICE is how the HEV battery gets recharged (along with regenerative braking).

AFAIK that generator is always turning with the engine's crank, even if ProPower is shut off.

I don't think there's anything the user can do to defeat that. I'm not able to determine whether or not shutting off ProPower actually affects MPG's; my gut feeling is that the parasitic draw from the HEV battery's generator is minimal. A blower would be more drag on the engine than the generator, I suspect.

It's true that you can't get energy for free, just like money for nothing.

I haven’t noticed that the 400W system does anything to hybrid operation. It’s been on 99% of the time I presume, and I’ve averaged 23 lifetime mpg.
