So, I found out today that Ford built my truck with the 5.5 ft. bed instead of the 6.5 ft bed. The dealer just told me to order another one and didn't make any attempt to make things right or give me any other options. I saw a couple folks were offered priority builds, I just don't feel my dealership will make that offer. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do. I have already looked for similar builds at other dealerships and may have found one. Dealership told me they would try to get it.

Thanks in advance for any info that can be provided.

I do not know where the breakdown occurred, but I doubt the factory just put in the wrong bed. There is just too much involved. I would be surprised if the dealership did not order it incorrectly. Even if you signed an incorrect order sheet, they really should bend over backwards to help you.

I do not know if you did this or not but whenever you order you should go to the build your own section and configure the order the exact way you like it. If you have any questions about options speak with someone at the dealership and get everything settled, then go back to the build site and make a final configuration. Print that out or save it as a PDF and send that to the dealership (or better yet send that to 10 dealerships) and ask for a quote for this exact order. They will ask for your phone number to speak with someone and if you give it, be prepared to have your phone blow up. :) Don't be shy and do not be afraid to negotiate hard. I know what I could get from Granger so if you cannot deal, thanks for the call and see you later.

If you are getting nothing but MSRP quotes you really should consider traveling to buy the ordered truck. I am going to Granger in Iowa and I am saving about $6600 before incentives. That will pay for my sales tax in VA ($2400), travel expenses ($600), undercoating at LineX ($600), Diamondback bed cover ($2300) and still leave me over $700 to pay toward my PPF ($2000). I could only get quotes for MSRP when I went to about 10 dealerships in the state of Virginia last January 2022, so I am traveling.

You will also get an order sheet from the dealership that will look something like a window sticker when you order listing all the options for the exact truck. I have probably looked at my order sheet 50 times to double check my order.

None of that will help you now but if there is a mistake the dealership made, that will give you back up for arguing your case that you should get something to help "make you whole" is this debacle. Good luck with this ordeal if the 6.5 foot bed is a "must have" item.

So, I found out today ....
Sorry, but that simply is not credible unless you have not been paying attention to your order until today.

Box length is defined by the cab/wheelbase combination shown on the WBDO order preview you got from your dealer before you signed your order and on the Monroney (window) sticker you got when your build was scheduled but before it was actually built. Examples:

Ford F-150 Wrong Build order preview and monroney sticker

That's two opportunities long before today to verify what you ordered and what was being built, I'd bet the farm that Ford built the truck per the order entered in WBDO by the dealer, please prove me wrong, post-up both of those documents.

When ordering a truck, it's your responsibility to know that with a CrewCab the wheelbase for a 6.5ft box is 157", not 145" for the 5.5ft box. This is well-publicized and explicit in online build-and-price, the widely available order guides, and virtually every table of F150 specifications found online or in print.

I do not know where the breakdown occurred, but I doubt the factory just put in the wrong bed.

I very strongly suspect the title of this thread should be "Wrong Order"

My dealer just received 7 F-150’s that were not as they were ordered. According to him the breakdown is when Dearborn submits the order to the factory for production.

You are correct, I screwed up and didn't pay much attention to the window sticker which showed 145". I only noticed that when the dealer showed me another window sticker (which said 157") of another vehicle that they got in and were trying to sell me since it was on the lot. My build sheet and theirs matched when I went in yesterday to talk to them, so right now, I have no reason to believe they messed it up. I sat with them and ordered it and confirmed multiple times. Thanks for the responses!

... I screwed up ...
Ford has no shortage of troubles on their end of things these days, Thank You for acknowledging that, in this case at least, the issue wasn't theirs.

I wish you luck getting the truck you really intended to order.

Dealer screwed up my first order too. They excluded Assist 2.0 from the build sheet submitted to Ford. When I asked them to confirm it was on my build they confirmed to me, but when I received my window sticker it wasn't on the build. After some back and forth, came to find out that the dealer "confirmed" Assist 2.0 was on the build sheet I printed and brought to the dealer, he never checked what he input in the system, then tried to blame it on me. Salesman I was working with and his manager were unapologetic and unhelpful. Same story, said I had to re-order. They offered another one on their lot to me (a platinum for +$85K where they MIGHT be able to sell to me at MSRP... I ordered a Lariat for about $60K). I ended up going to a new dealership who wanted my business more. So here I am stuck waiting on a new build hoping that the chip limits don't affect my new build.

Just wanted to chime in and let you know that the indifference was my experience as well. I think that current demand is so high that they don't really care about these mishaps. The time/energy into making me happy isn't worth the return to them, which is a shame. Just my hunch. Good luck with your order.

My dealership actually MODIFIED my '21 order a month after they originally submitted it. I found out when I saw the window sticker. They tried to deny it but I had brought an internal ford systems report that showed when and who modified what exactly.

Obviously we had to re-order a 2022 and I requested to get a priority 1, same price as my '21 order and free line-x. Here we are 7 months later and my '22 was shipped and hopefully arriving this week.
