Top speed for '21 Powerboost

Can't decide if a question or PSA. On a flat, straight, open 2 lane road in daylight I needed to pass several semis and found my '21 KR Powerboost governed to 106. Frankly the motor had a lot more to offer but the truck did not.

Has anyone had this phenomenon? Please don't lecture on needing speed to pass, if you know anything about west Texas countryside you would understand. I was surprised and want to make sure all is as designed.

Apparently the police responder version can top out at 120 so makes me wonder if there isn’t a forscan programmed limit somewher.

Operating as designed, and will admit a little disappointed but understand the general purpose logic - versus us out in the flat lands where 85 MPH speed limits are common and appropriate.

Every truck I've had (GM, RAM, Ford) has a governor of right around 100 mph. The tire rating, amongst other things, is the reason for the limiter.

In this modern era of computer controlled ignition programming an upper limit on speed or engine rpm is just a few more lines of code...

Raptors that do not have the 37" package also are governed at 120

Yeah but won’t help the CPU unfortunately.

A tune will get rid of the top speed limiter. Then you’ll have to worry about tires. The stock hankook’s have a load/speed rating of 115t. That would be an approximate top speed of 118mph.

You would also want to worry about brakes. It is a 6000+lb vehicle after all.

Ford vehicles have been governed for many years now. It probably keeps knuckle heads from driving 150 mph and coming back in and claiming engine problems.
