2021 STX
Hello-

New here! I'm currently on the market for an f150. My must haves are:

-2.7
-STX or Sport package (center console is a must and hate chrome)
-4wd
-crew

SO My budget is pretty hard at 40k. I know that used prices are at an all time high and alot of folks would argue that too close too new which has me thinking... BUT also - 5k is 5k which is alot of money.

My dream truck (at my age and income) would be a 2021 XLT 302A w/2.7 and the 2kw pro power. But I think to get there I'd be closer to 50k after tax (I have a quote from Granger which is great but with current incentives I believe id be at like 49 with TTL and thats just more than I think I can justify right now. But if you guys think Ford would go deep enough on incentives and rebates to get me OTD at 45k with TTL, thats an easier pill to swallow....

BUT sticking with the 40K budget (or round about), I believe I have 2 decent options still in my budget which would be going with a new 21 STX XL OR finding a slightly used 18-20 XLT with 302A. I see benefits to both:

STX

Pro:
Better looking truck IMO
NEW so warranty
better interior styling
could possibly get the 2k pro power (i go on alot of camping and western hunts where a generator is SUPER nice)
co pilot option

Cons:
More expensive (probably)
No power seats
No power pedals
No console shifter

18-20 XLT302A

Pro:
Cheaper
console shifter
power pedals
power seats
heated seats

cons:
Not as good looking
no option for pro power
no co pilot

anyways... those are where I'm at. Please, if you were in my shoes, tell me what YOU'D do. I'd like to hear from those who have had both, or have an opinion. No opinion is wrong!

A used truck is still covered by the original warranty JFYI as long as it's not past the age/miles.

Here's something else to think about, an 18-20 will have more aftermarket mods available. Headlights, interior mods like steering wheels (raptor, leather, etc...), just more stuff in general. The 21's aftermarket is pretty much non existent right now save for a few lift kits and things that transferred over like running boards/rails. And it may take a few years before it picks up.

I got my truck a few weeks ago and the current incentives are good till April....or so I was told, this was also before all the chip (what’s that?) nonsense.

Keep an eye out on incentives and try to hunt down an X plan number. In the meantime be on the hunt for a used one and start making car payments to yourself...$300 every paycheck into a side account.
If it takes you a few months to find a truck then you have some down payment money to play with and when the first payment hits its not a hit to the walllet.

maybe even email a few salespeople and tell that what you told us. It’s pretty interesting how X plans fall from the sky or deals get made.

Work the angles, never settle, drink whiskey and live free.

I actually already have a pretty big chunk of down payment ready. That’s not an issue. But even with that, the idea of a long term or a payment over $450 a month to me for a vehicle is silly.

I have access to x plan but it’s not that crazy good. The 2021 xlt 302a I built I got a quote for $48,000 and some change before incentives and TTL which seem to be a wash at this point.

I can easily get an 18 with 20-30000 miles for 35k or so pre tax. That’s a significant savings over brand new. But it’s not the 21 with the nicer screen and LEDs and all the fancier stuff.

I have a tendency to throw logic out the door when shiny new things are dangles in front of me. My wife helps keep me out of trouble but I still am powerless so I wanted to get some ideas here to either defend or go against my logic of going used or a base package to save Some $$$

Get the ‘21 STX and be done with it! I do a lot of hunting as well and that built in generator is going to be awesome.

My XLT 301a stickered right at 50k
My options are
Big tank
HDPP 18” wheels
Console
Chrome step bars
Remote start
Extended cab
8ft box
4x4
V8

You may be able to get a 300a listing for about 45k
You will get the 8” center display, and the smaller XL style instruments, but it will be more than a base truck.

I’m not all that hard to please once the v8 is there.
Air, Tilt, Cruise will keep me content
(Been driving nearly base trucks for 40+ yrs and this new one is only my second automatic, and the first with power windows—-I’ve had my 79 Chev 42 years last month)

The new ones are nice trucks, and mine has enough balls to do what I need it to do.
( but still also hanging onto my 98 Chev that has proven to be literally bullet proof—real bullet holes)

yeah, I think I could get to 45k with a 302A BUT tax would negate it all honestly. I have one listed at 49,000 before TTL and incentives currently that I LOVE. Really this is a pretty good price as it is only slightly higher than what Granger offered on a custom build very similar to this.

I plan to have around 15-20k to put down on it. I dont want to finance more than 25k so if I could find one 45 AFTER tax, I could swing it. That is predominantly why I was considering an XL. Honestly, an XL with the powerboost seems cool but also that gets you into the 302A category.... and IDK if 3mpg and a new, untested platform is worth it to me (even tho the 2.4 or 72 PP on board would be). The thing that keeps pulling me to the 302A XLT are the damn LED headlights.... haha

You should be able to get an XLT 2.7 302A in your budget on Xplan. I just got a 21 w/302A and a lot of extra options (work tailgate, step, 2k for the 5L motor etc) for 45k out the door with X plan and rebates. Knock off a few options I have and the motor charge, you should be able to get close w/ X plan/rebates.

Yes I did
What rebates did you get??? If you got 45k after TTL your sale price had to be below 43k which means you got rebates in the neighborhood of like 5-6k which to my knowledge haven’t existed yet on 21s. Can you post up the sales sheet for your purchase?
