I just bought the retrax pro xr for my 22 f150 5.0, and I see that I can lock it in any position along the rails. However, I've just learned that it is not recommended to drive with the cover partially open. What is the point of having the option of locking it in any position if I cant drive with it that way?

I’ve had a Retrax Pro on two pickups since 2013. Don’t worry about it. It was never an issue

You can. It might slide open if your clamps are not tight (you can adjust the locking mechanism with an allen key to make it fit more snug).

Who said you can't drive with it partially open though?

I read it on a Google search. It stated that...It's not recommended, and that no road tests have been done to determine if it is OK to do. I thought it sounded logical because all the weight in the canister would be on the 4 little screws to the rails. I decided to ignore it and just do it. No problem occurred.
