I have a query for a particular subset of members: owners of V8s that have also installed the Raptor skid plate under the transmission.

What have you found is the best/most efficient way to do oil changes?

I did my first oil change since I installed the skid plate. It was a chore to access the oil drain bolt, oil ran all over the Raptor skid plate and the front factory skid plate, and I couldn't fit my torque wrench between the skid plate and oil pan to snug down the drain bolt. I just went ahead and removed the Raptor skid plate to finish it up.

To add insult to injury, the Fumoto valve I bought wouldn't fit with the Raptor skid plate installed. I bought the one with the long nipple on it, but found that the skid plate would just about contact the end of the nipple. I guess now I need to buy the short nipple version for the next oil change. ?

2025 SuperCab 4wd. I haven’t added the Raptor skid plate but I removed the factory skid plate for my first oil change. Not sure that was necessary. The filter seems to drain into a channel that might line up with a hole in the skid plate. Not sure since I took it off. Also, the clips the skid plate bolts into don’t look like they will hold up to being rebolted every oil change. Any wisdom from the pros? This is my first Ford.

I found that if I park with the truck tilted slightly nose up, then the filter oil all runs down that tube on the back side of the cross member, which is perfect for my RCI skids. Maybe you can play with the incline by parking on boards or something to get the oil to angle right on its way out.

You might try what I do, I use a light clamp or masking tape to hold the cardboard tube from a used up roll of paper towels over back outlet of the oil filter tray down past the frame to a collection pan. This prevents any oil from getting on the frame as it drains.

Oil change #2 complete. Did not pull off the skid plate this time. I used ramps for a little more room to work and the incline mentioned above. I installed a Fumoto oil drain valve. The filter drained through hole in the skid plate well. Mess was minimal and with the Fumoto it should be a breeze from now on.
