What mileage is recommended to get oil changed? I have the lifetime warranty and don't want to void it by missing my timeline. The dealership says every 5000 miles but nowhere in the manual says a mileage to have it done. Thanks

Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor™
Your vehicle is equipped with an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor that determines when you should change the engine oil based on how your vehicle is used. By using several important factors in its calculations, the monitor helps reduce the cost of owning your vehicle and reduces environmental waste at the same time. Do not exceed one year or 10,000 miles.

Disclaimer: If you drive hard, tow, heavy loads etc.. intervals will be different. But this is out of the maintenance section of the truck. Don't shoot the messenger.

You will get a multitude of opinions and answers with this question.

I follow the OLM and change oil/filter accordingly. That’s good enough for me as I lease my vehicles and have a lot less worry.

YMMV

The truck monitors your use and counts down the "oil life". When it gets to about 10% it pops up a message on the screen telling you to get the oil changed. You can see what the remaining life is by finding the oil life reading in the menus. You can also re-set the life meter when the oil has been changed. Changing the oil when the truck tells you to will certainly maintain the warranty.

That said, my practice with a new engine is to drive it for about 2,000 miles to break it in, change the oil and change it again at 5,000 miles and every 5,000 miles after that. Just my process and opinion.

as others have said, you’ll get a ton of opinions on this. I agree with mmdpg on an early change after break in but there is a ton of strong evidence that modern high quality synthetic can last for 10k or more. Pushing that 5k to 8-9k miles seems like the financially prudent and still aggressively protective move. It’s what I shoot for.

Probably some kind of dealer warranty. The kind that requires you to take it to them to have all the maintenance done. Doubt you’ll get a reply from the OP though, hasn’t been seen since April 2021.

Oil life as calculated by the engine computer is going to reflect the duty cycle including trip duration and gas consumption to provide a change interval based on your truck usage. If someone is driving in heavy traffic and at city speeds the oil life is different than for a truck driven for an hour or more on trips at freeway speeds. Miles does not equal engine hours and that is what is important.

5,000 miles at 25 mph average is roughly 200 hours of engine operation. 5,000 miles at 60 mph average results in 83 engine hours which is considerably less. Changing the oil arbitrarly at 5000 miles on the odometer makes zero sense.

My diesel truck and diesel boat engines have always had an hour meter to use to determine when to change the crankcase oil. The diesel motor oil had to contend with diesel fuel which is very very dirty fuel.

I change the oil on my truck once a year as I avoid driving it as much as possible. It is a gas hog and I want to minimize my carbon footprint as much as possible.

I use the OLM, after my first change at 1500 miles. Changes have been 4500-6500 mile range. depends on how I‘m using the truck (towing, long haul runs, around town, etc.). I also run mobil 1
