I would not wish this on anyone. I just heard about this, hopefully this is not redundant news in this forum:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60992514/toyota-tundra-lexus-lx-engine-recall/

Apparently there was "debris" left in the engine on assembly and it's eating the main bearings, among other issues.

I was 100% ready to order a new gen Tundra in late 2021, because of them being the safe choice of "quality." It might take them years to recover from this.

I don't think this will hurt them much. They spent years replacing truck frames under warranty. People kept buying their trucks.

Debris, my @$$. That's a convenient delay tactic for Toyota so they can move 24 inventory. They have a design issue that is frying main bearing #1 on hundreds (soon to be thousands) of engines so far, and it'll only get worse. If it were a debris issue, it would have been pinpointed to one location, namely their TMMAL engine manufacturing plant in Alabama. However, twin turbo V6's built in Japan for Lexus are also failing with regularity. And let me tell you, I'm very familiar with the Tahara Toyota/Lexus plant and the kaizen principles those Japanese workers follow. They wouldn't let debris go into their engines.

Something does smell fishy about the recall. I find it hard to believe a debris issue could go on for two years of manufacturing.

Odd that the recall is for non hybrid engines only. So far.
The word I 've heard on that is because the hybrid could still propel the vehicle out of danger if the motor packed up at the wrong time. I, too, think they are covering up a design issue. There are anecdotes that can be drawn from repeat failure instances in the LS500, which has used a earlier version of this engine dating back to 2018. Its rather sad, the tundra drivetrain is literally dead last in the segment at this point. Its the slowest if you compare it the competition's premium options, middling mpg (the hybrid only just averages better than the old v8), and now this.

This is all because of the unattainable newer CAFE standards that are forcing plastic parts and crazy high compression ratios to make an incremental improvement for the EPA drive cycle. VW got caught with their secret programs that sensed the drive cycle was being performed but then ran its own mapping for day to day driving. The cost isn’t worth it and more fossil fuels are going to be used up shipping all these blocks all over the place and the decreased life expectancy of new vehicles. You’re better off having a little inefficiency than building a whole new truck every five years because you’re chasing that last couple miles per gallon during a contrived test. Meanwhile, you’re going to get around the same MPG regardless when doing truck things.

There's a pretty good thread on this on an f150ecoboost forum with some good info. This is definitely hurting tundra owners right now. Some dealers won't even take one in on trade currently.

Not sure how accurate it is, but I remember reading an article in the last couple days or so that Toyota are not accepting these trucks as trade-ins due to this. Which doesn’t make sense because there’s a recall...

Wild.
