Anyone have credible insight into the latest order process? Several bulletin boards reflect what used to be the old method which would get you a VIN within a month or less.

I'm 7 weeks into ordering. Texting my sales rep. this morning asking for update on VIN got me the following:
"It shows as a scheduled clean order but no VIN yet" Not sure what that means. Ordering manager at dealership had told me directly when I stopped in a few weeks ago that the order was submitted but "not picked up yet."

I'm understanding that the chip issue is causing pain, but also thinking my sales guy just doesn't give a sh*t anymore. He got promoted to fleet sales. They also price matched a deal quoted from other side of country that is about $2,000 below MSRP.

Fortunately they did submit with priority 10. This is a volume dealership with multiple locations out West so maybe they have decent allocation?

Seeing movement in semiconductors starting to flow again, Bronco production, etc., seems the estimates, guesses, what we're used to, has changed up?

You won’t get a VIN until ford “picks up” the order for scheduling. At that point the dealer will have a VIN they can pass onto you. This part I know from personal experience pestering my dealer with order changes up until it got picked up lol (always adding more so they didn’t complain).

As both plants have been shut down for the last 6 weeks they probably also have not been picking up any new orders.

FYI: even when the plants were open, Ford didn’t pick up my priority 10 order for 3 weeks.

Also note as you have probably read: that priority code is only relevant in the context of other orders at that same dealership.

Finally: nobody really knows the exact formula the picker uses but factors include the dealers allocations, commodity availability, priority code and order date.

BOTH plants have been shut for 6 weeks? I saw intermittent closures or shift reductions but not closes for that long.

Certainly could explain the delay. On a 2021 F-150 Facebook group several folks posted 3.5-4 months from order to delivery, with those deliveries within the past few weeks or within the next few. Four months seems fair once the factories open back full.

Thanks for responding.

Since in your info block on the left says you have ordered a platinum - your truck will be built in Dearborn. Only XL - Lariat are built in KC. There was a shut down at DTP for 2 weeks and is operating on a limited schedule this week. I have not seen any news for when they go back to full production mode, or if they will do it gradually.

I did see that Unscheduled trucks will not be picked this week for build, it will be 6/24 at the earliest. Ford seems to decide on Friday if they will schedule trucks the following week. Current build dates that are being selected are now into August.

The 4 months from order to delivery is a good estimate, if everything holds up, it will be ~4.5 months between ordering and delivery based on what info I have.

I just updated my profile. Ended up ordering Lariat with several addons.

My order build: https://shop.ford.com/build/f150/#/....50M.RETAIL.86L.55A.53C.588.18P.LEA.89B.SS6.]

Just so strange. When I ordered my 2018 F-150 in November 2017, I had a VIN within weeks. Pickup truck up at dealership just under two months. Was amazing!

Thanks for your reply and your time.

Thats more the norm, different times. It will probably take 6 months to a year to get everything rolling properly again.

This is the first week the plants are back up since mid-may (and pickups of orders stopped before then)…. Somewhere on the forum there is a string of bulletins for the various shutdowns, stop orders, and limited startup. From the sound of the last bulletin, next week should be the first back to running all shifts, fingers crossed that means they worked out their supply issues and no new ones pop up.

It seems to be everywhere. Went to the paint store the other day… no samples: “latex shortage”. MDF: they can’t make the stuff: “glue shortage”. Plastics, chips, and bonding agents oh my.

Any idea where folks are getting this information? I have Google Alerts set for "F-150" etc. and I hadn't seen that factories were closed for that long.

Someone with access was posting Ford bulletins in here when they came out. Unfortunately they aren’t consolidated and are buried in various threads so I’m going off memory of them.

My dealer said they’re so delayed. They said their lot usually has 300 cars and now only 40. Today I got my VIN but I’m not sure what the order number is they sent me a pic of the screen it’s says selected order: with an 8 digit number and then the VIN underneath. When I go to Ford site it only lets me enter 4 numbers order number and then tells me it’s wrong. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong??

Hmmm
Ok I’ll have to ask. So you can’t just use VIN to look it up?

The order number will be on the order sheet they gave you at the time you placed the order. Its towards the top middle, mine isn’t in front of me but I think the field is called order code.

I haven't seen a way. But ya, I hear your dealer should be able to give you the order number.

I was looking in wrong spot and I found it. When I check it says ordered accepted but no build date but my dealer got a build week of 6/28 and build date of 6/29. Is there a reason I wouldn’t see it? Dealer has had to order truck twice in order to get a build date.

Same thing happened to me. I think the internal updates from the Vehicle Visibility Report are more up to date and accurate than what we can see publicly through the trackers on Ford's website and sites like this one. The Vehicle Visibility Report from my dealer has a build date on it.
