Story time guys!
In October I tossed on Icons coilovers bringing the front up 2 inches. I went to the local Indiana BigO to get the alignment checked and adjusted as necessary. Their package was about $180.
When the truck was done, the tech came out and said it was barely off, and that he fixed the toe and I was good to go. When I left I found that the steering wheel was way off center to the left, so I called and let them know. Since I was cramped on time it took me a week before I made it back in.
This time a new kid was there, and after he checked it out he stated that the last kid didn’t know how to do alignments, and he would straighten it out. When he finished he told me that he was able to get it pretty close, but if I want it better I needed to get camber bolts so it would be easier for him to dial it in. After I left, the steering wheel was off to the right a bit, and gradually got worse over a week or so.
I ordered the bolts and scheduled to go back in a third time.
When I came in, another new guy was working, and they charged me $70 to toss on the 4 bolts, which I basically had to pay or shit wouldn’t get fixed.
After that alignment it was actually pretty good for a few days until one morning when I was on my way to work, I took a sharp right hand turn, heard a loud clunk, and then my steering wheel was WAY off and the truck wouldn’t drive straight.
I went to a new location closer to my work a few hours later and explained what happened to them. After getting it on the rack they said that a couple of the control arm bolts were loose, so they realigned and “tightened“ it up.
After a few weeks, I noticed an odd click noise randomly when I would turn, but didn’t think too terribly much of it until it started to get louder and pretty much any time I was turning sharp.
I jacked the truck up today to check the bolts, and 2 were at about 70-80ftlbs, and 2 were close to 150. These things are supposed to be like 260!
I just emailed corporate, and am going to go back in one last time. Either they give me my money back, or they do the alignment with me verifying the torque and give me a written statement that I get a full refund if I have to come back in.
This has all been a crazy ordeal with such a basic vehicle! Only thing I can figure is that they just never torqued it all down hard enough. Let me know what you guys think of the whole thing!
