I’ve watched a couple YouTube reviews of Bakflip F1 or Fibermax showing that the sections gain weight over time by retaining water in the composite or foam panel filling. Have others experienced anything like this with hard covers? Couldn’t find discussions in search. Hate to pay $1000 for something that gets waterlogged and eventually fails when I plan to have truck 10 plus years. Vinyl roll up covers have served me well on past trucks

I was looking at the MX4, just to get the ability to close the tailgate without lifting the cover, and came across a couple reviews about the MX4 getting waterlogged. The surface finish looked bad, weathered and almost as if the surface had been sanded, exposing the fiberglass underneath. Not sure where the owner lived or if it spent it's life under a blazing sun, but it didn't look good. I've had 3 Bak G2's, one of which I had for 9 years....5 years in TX and a year in CO without a garage, and it still looked pretty good, but the finish was beginning to dull. Just installed a G2 on my '24 and it even has the "no need to lift the cover to close the tailgate" seal...an upgrade they finally made standard on G2's.

I did google search ‘bakflip waterlogged’ and ‘hard tonneau waterlogged’ and see it is somewhat common problem. I’ve had hot tub covers get that way too. Think I’ll stick with vinyl.

I’ve not heard of the MX4 getting waterlogged, and know from personal experience using it that this cover does allow moisture into the bed.

My bed gets wet but I didn’t hook up the drain hose’s. It’s mostly just when traveling stuff out of sight and secure. I really don’t think any roll or flip will keep bed totally dry. That would be more like a full over the edge type cover. Never had any water log issues and park outside.
