Buy from FordSync4 at your own risk. 1st off, look at their customer service email.... its a Gmail account. If you call their customer service number, it does not work. If you look up the business in BBB, they are possibly a scam. Turns out the "business" is based out of China and has a fake LLC in Delaware.
Here's my story:
I purchased the 12" upgrade with the option to keep my 8" APIM. Took about 30 days to receive the items. There were no installation instructions, just a link to a YouTube video. (Note their comments have been disabled). I installed the new hardware the best I could, which did not work. I tried to call customer service. (not a working number) I emailed them, to which they advised there is a 50% chance the 8" APIM will actually work with the 12" screen. No solution other than to buy the 12" APIM, so I did. Took about 30 days to receive it. Again no installation instructions. I installed the new APIM and it initially turned on... sweet right?? No. After turning the truck off and reassembling the dash, when I turned the truck back on... nothing. F*** I unhooked the battery, then reconnected it and viola.. it worked. But again after turning off the truck nothing. I emailed the company they said to disconnect the battery for 3 hours and it should reset and work. I did but again same results. I had Ford reprogram the APIM, which did nothing. Ford also had no idea what to do.
So here is my solution: I believe there is something wrong with their wiring harness. It appears the screen is not being told to turn back on after being turned off. So I ran this plug (pictured below) to the fuse panel near the passenger floorboard. I used a 10amp fuse and tapped into fuse #2 which is a delayed accessory fuse. This means the screen will only receive power when the key is turned to accessory mode or turned on. Also means when you turn the truck off, the radio turns off immediately instead of playing until you open the driver side door. (I can live with that).
If anyone has another solution please let me know.
