Ford F-150 Finally diving into FDRS - In which order should I update modules? 1724889647508-k7

These are my modules that need updating according to @HammaMan (thanks dude). My Mongoose cable should be here this afternoon, going to dive in tomorrow morning and start trying to update everything.

Is there a specific order that I should try to update these in? My main goals are BC 1.4 (IPMA, PSCM, & CMR, right?) and updating my audio modules (ACM & DSP?) in hopes of better audio quality. Should I only update the modules associated with these goals or update every module? I tend to be of the mindset don't try to fix what's not broken, but would like to hear what yall think.

Last question, will updating these modules manually with FDRS affect how I receive OTA updates? Will Ford not recognize that my truck was updated manually and still try to push the same updates OTA eventually? Anything to worry about here?

Oh and @rugedraw, I'll be reaching out via PM to get those ForScan values to update to enable BC 1.4.

Much thanks to all you guys. Would've never dreamed of doing this without all the knowledge i've gained here.

You can check it on your screen. But if he says that’s what you have then that’s what you have. That’s good in that you wont be in too much of a “do loop“. But there should be a couple more Sync (APIM) updates for you to be current.

The APIM (i.e. Sync) and TCU and IPMA and GWM can all take a LONG while (hours), and some require a USB, and they are interconnected in a that after you update one of them it may trigger another one of them etc (the “do loop“ I referenced above).

Make sure you have a good power supply hooked up to truck and I’d suggest a fully charged battery in the truck to begin. Same on laptop and no screen saver or sleep mode on laptop.

Since it is only a two day license and this could take hours and hours, you probably should start with what you want. It can’t hurt to update all of them though given the time.

Sundays are often days when FDRS is under maintenance so maybe wait until first thing tomorrow so you don’t lose any of your subscription time??? You actually get two days plus until midnight so it’s not just a 48 hr subscription.

You doing updates won’t adversely affect your OTA updates. It’ll probably help them.

Many of those updates you are questioning doing only take a couple minutes.

The DDM and PDM help with window issues and you need to run the power door window initialization module after updating.

The ACM module won’t go away from the update list after you update it even though it updated.

You can’t do the BCM unless you have a special dealer login that none of us have.

Good luck but many on here can help if you get stuck.

Thanks for the info. What kind of window issues do the DDM and PDM address? I haven’t noticed any issues.

Sounds like it’d be best if I started with the BC related modules first and then go to the audio modules.

Again, if you do not have a battery charger with a power supply mode, get one before you start updating.

Here is the most popular choice around these parts:

Clore Automotive PL2320 20-Amp...

You'll need a USB thumb drive as well.

Yes sir it’s included in my order. I plan on charging completely before performing the updates as well. Should I charge on 20 amp or 10 amp mode?

It doesn’t matter which amp you choose as far as charging goes, it’ll end up the same In the end. More amps is shorter charge time though. Be in AGM for the charge.

Be in power supply mode for the updates!

Sweet I’ll make sure to do that. Any lessons learned the hard way that I should be on the lookout for? Any specifics on what to do or especially not to do? Or is it all pretty self explanatory once you’re in the software?

And only Ford knows what they fixed with the DDM or PDM (or most updates for that matter). The don’t really tell us other than “improved driving experience or better reliability” blah blah blah.
