Driveshaft diameter

I have a 22 with the 157 bed length and max tow. Is the driveshaft a 3” or 3.5 circumference? Thank you!

Why do I think it's larger diameter than either of those dimensions?

It's seems way bigger to me, but I can't find any dimension quickly in the materials I have.

It's alarmingly thin walled too.

I have a balance master driveshaft balancer from my previous truck, ram 2500. It’s 4” circle and it was too big for my current driveshaft. I figured I would use it on my current out of balance driveshaft., but is too big.

I guess it's just an optical illusion to my eyes. Especially the stunning photo of the broken one on the forum:

But I have also seen a couple of pics of black driveshafts that definitely look different than the more common natural aluminum. But I don't know if they were oem.

Yes mine is a black multi piece steel unit.

Actually my ram 2500 had a 4.5” around driveshaft.

If you're simply looking for the diameter or OD of the shaft. Wrap a piece of tape or ribbon around it, mark where the end meets this will be circumference. Measure tape from the end to your mark and divide by 3.1459 this will be the OD.

A 4.5 circumference shaft doesn’t exist, maybe diameter. I’d bet the CV shafts up front are 4.5” circumference lol
