2022 F150 Platinum 5.0V8 - I've had the truck for about three months now and I just started to notice at about 5500 miles a strong odor, which smells exactly like burning oil, comes through the vents and I can smell it outside the truck after driving it for a certain amount of time. It is a very regular occurrence which happens with specific conditions which makes me think it's an oil burning smell and not plastic burning, electrical or some other issue which would cause it to smell immediately on ignition and/or use. The conditions I notice it are :

- Truck has to run for at least 20 minutes, the smell occurrence happens faster if I've been on the highway
- No smell when truck is cold or hasn't been running long
- No smell present UNTIL the truck is stopped, which means it's happening but I can't smell it at speed
- Truck only started doing this at about 5200 miles
- No noticable leaks under the truck, nothing on the ground
- Oil levels are at 35%, dip stick looks fine with correct coloration
- All other fluids are exactly what you would expect from a new truck, nominal

I've already went to the dealer once and they tried to tell me that it was the new truck smell/burning off a piece of plastic/ect. ect. which clearly it is not. I'm going to take it back but I'm seeing if others are dealing with this same issue.

Not sure if it applies to this engine but first thing I would check is a valve cover gasket leak dripping onto the headers, run your finger with a paper towel under it and see if it’s wet at all

My thinking is that oil just ‘leaking’ but not being incinerated will not smell like burning. It’s somehow touching your exhaust

You're right about an oil leak because I just saw it, some component on the side/underneath the right side of the engine. That picture I attached shows where I see a small amount of oil pooled there in that seal area, kind of hard to see but that has to be it

There's a close up of where it's coming from

Interesting, that definitely looks like it! I wonder if that’s a sensor of some kind (thinking oil pressure but could be that green seal that we can see)

Glad you’re getting to the bottom of it!
