backup camera zoom function/dynamic hitch assist

This is regarding the zoom feature of the backup camera, also called dynamic hitch assist per the window sticker, NOT pro trailer hitch assist.

When I back up to something I don't want to hit and don't trust my judgement I press the "+" so the camera zooms in/looks straight down for a better view of what's back there. When doing this with nothing in the hitch the zoom feature works every time.

When I back up to any of my trailers with the ball and mount in the hitch I also press the "+" so I can get the ball under the coupler perfect every time. Here's the strange problem. When I hit that zoom button with a ball in the hitch it won't zoom, every damn time I try it, it won't zoom. When this happens I'll reset the apim by long pressing the radio power button and the forward seek button, then the zoom works with a ball in the hitch.

Without a ball in the hitch it zooms every time. With a ball in the hitch it never zooms and needs apim reset in order to zoom.

Anyone else experience this? I'm curious how that camera seeing a ball in the hitch makes it not zoom. Haunted?!

I’ve never had mine refuse to zoom, with a ball or not

I took the truck in for service and for this odd situation. They performed TSB 23-2416 and also updated the GWM, APIM, TCU, IPMA & IPC. As of now this issue is fixed.
