Auto Dimming Rear View - Downside To Covering It?

I am considering an ARE Topper for the bed, but I wish the truck came with a proper digital rear view mirror. One option I am looking at to cover a couple of bases is a Wolfbox 900 combo dash came, rear view mirror. It goes over the existing mirror and it held on with straps.

Does covering the auto dimming rear view mirror have any impact on anything else in the truck? I planned on covering the mirror and just driving around but I thought I would ask here too.

IIRC, the dimming driver's outside mirror uses input from the inside rearview, so you might throw off your outside mirror.
