So my new 21 F150 has 300 miles and I’ve been taking it pretty easy for break in. Yesterday I decided to see just how strong it was and wound out 2nd. To my surprise, the tach kept climbing. And climbing until I saw 6.8, the tach turned red, and it shifted. It pulls STRONG all the way through. Just watched a video where a guy did a cold air intake and Dyno tune on his 21 and he said 6200 was his rev limit. So- is 6800 normal for this gen? My 2012 shifted way earlier.
I’m not complaining. Just surprised. I must say- I’m glad I got this engine. The 3.73’s just make it perfect.

Fellow 5.0 owner here and I’m at about 450 miles. I’ve tried to keep it fairly light footed(some exceptions include freeway/open street where i kinda floor it). But the usual gear change I’ve noticed (depending on drive mode) is around 1.2-2.0 rpms.

6800 here too. I knew they raised it for 21, but thought i read 6,500. It still wants more rpm too.

That was one thing that stood out to me when I first bought my truck in February. The previous GEN13 F150 with the V8 had a redline of 5500rpm IIRC. It seems like Ford tuned the Coyote in our trucks more like a de-tuned mustang engine (for 87 octane instead of premium fuel).

That red line is right at 6800—I checked this morning
Never was much of a concern to me as MAYBE 4K is about as high as I’ve gotten. I don’t try to make it turn into lots of little pieces (5.0 in my 65 Ranchero—different story)
My former 59 ElCamino with a GM Performance 454HO, had shift points of 6300. My 66 ElCamino would grenade long before that, but it is still a nice cruiser.

The Coyote has always liked rpm. I've had motors that would would turn that high- but really just made more noise than anything. I remember tuners back in 2012 (my last Coyote) would rev them that high and everybody "worried". But the factory hot rod they have now seems to actually pull up to the shift point. Well done Ford. I have a 91 GT Mustang and the factory based 302 was limited to 6200ish redline. I built that motor and shifted it at 7200. But lightened the rotating assy, balanced, poured block, and main girdle. It lived just fine with the .616 solid roller cam and fantastic heads. But even that purpose built motor didn't make the same power on the curve of the new 5.0. I'm impressed honestly with how it performs.
