I am about 4 plus months into this blind journey we call Ford retail purchasing. Seems like I have learned so much from this forum in a matter of days/weeks than my dealership cares to assist with, so thank you all for the great knowledge.

I asked my guy last week for a list of things that might be holding up production and to my surprise this list is generated each and every Tuesday, so today was the day we got the updates and its pretty grim to say the least. My build is in the signature, I have already removed spray in liner and wheel well liners, but here is what is on the Ford production restraint list as of today (pertaining to my build only...not inclusive). I guess if you have any of these on your order your odds may have just gone down.

1. Twin Panel Sunroof
2. Max Recline Seats
3. 4X4 (yes you read that right....4X4 trucks, wow)
4. All Gas Engines

Guess chances are slim to none this gets scheduled on Thursday, but then again its calls production restraints not production eliminations haha. Good luck everyone.

I sure wish Ford would do something to let those of us with open orders know when they realistically see the backlog being built. I cannot believe how poorly the dealer and automaker are handling this situation.

Heard the CEO liveon TV today actually blurt out with a big smile, while standing beside the Lightning line: "If we have any chip shortages, the ones we get are all going in here first". So prioritizing the Lightning F-150 over all other F-150s, likely for ESG points I'm guessing.

Kinda disgusting if you ask me.

If 3 and 4 were true, there would be no scheduling tomorrow.
Not sure I'd agree with that comment. Ford can still have production scheduled tomorrow even with items on a "Production Restraint" list right? It's not a "Production Halt" list. I only imagine these items are in very limited quantity, not as robust as other weeks. Unless I am off and Ford uses the word "restraint" in the same manner as totally unavailable, I seriously do not know Ford's definition of the meaning.

The four items listed pertain to my build sheet. I do not know if there were any other items on the production restraint list that was received by the dealership.

If all engines were in short supply or not available, why would they bother to schedule?

This is not a small part. Cannot semd anything down the line with no drivetrain.

Plants would be stopped fora week. Shifts canceles, etc.

I have a feeling we're going to be disappointed tomorrow.

I'm perpetually disappointed with my order (ordered on May 1). I just had them delete the BAP and wheel well liners. I kept the max recline seats (even though there is a delay with them). Moonroof was not brought up. 4x4 was not brought up.

I feel that I will get my Lightning (with a July reservation date mind you) before I get my ICE truck.

But hey, this Sunday will be my one year anniversary. I'm trying to figure out what to do for the occasion.

Considering this depends on suppliers hitting their marks, which they have been shown to have trouble with, how would this be possible? They'd issue predictions and then those predictions would get shot to hell and then another wave of updates that change the previous estimates, and people would get pissed Ford doesn't have a crystal ball.

There is no win for Ford here.

Yes and no. They can run some numbers and provide some ranges. Anyone with a good supply understanding can give more than Ford is giving today.
Ford has been dealing with this for 2 years now, sure there are real supply challenges but things are getting made at record volumes, but it’s not enough.

You are right about this. A lot of the issues are out of Fords control. Fords problem is communication. Besides the orders that are a year old and not even in production, there are trucks built sitting in lots awaiting chips and whatever else... all the while trucks continue to be produced and shipped. Its a PR issue they should resolve.

The way Ford can win is with honest communication. I have worked for an automaker. My wife has worked for several suppliers of different sizes. That’s why I know Ford could be doing better with communication about all of this.

I’m more upset with my dealer than Ford itself. My salesperson is useless. Sales managers at the dealership won’t answer questions when I escalate to them because sales guy won’t get back to me. I’d cancel this order and go with Granger if I could, but there have been three price increases and new order restrictions mean I can’t even order an identical configuration now.

I had planned to order another Ford this year but that’s not going to happen now.
