2022 F-150 transmission codes

My new F150 is sending a single code that I towed it while not being in neutral tow. The dealer said they don't know why the code appeared. It goes off with the ok button, but comes back on next start. The transmission fluid was drained and examined and it is fine. No other codes. Dealer wants me to replace the transmission. Can i reset the transmission codes by resetting the PCM? There is nothing wrong with the drive. The dealer doesn't see any other codes and they don't know why the "service soon" display dept turning off. Comments ? thanks

Amazing.

Your transmission could be bucking and kicking and you'd get a "that's normal" from some dealerships, but you get a false alert on an otherwise perfectly behaving tranny and they want to replace it.

You'd think that there would at least be an effort to diagnose the sensors related to the false alert?

Can you tell us the code?

What terrible service. Unreal, and all too common. I would definitely try to find a dealer that can troubleshoot your problem. The one you’re currently working with sounds inept.

I'm trying to get the code, but the dealer hasn't called me back yet. They told me that the code said the vehicle was towed but not in neutral tow, for more than 6 miles. That is what they got from the code. I want to shut the code down with a PCM reboot, but understand that may cause other issues. I can re boot through the fuse box. Any comments on this approach? If the code comes back then i have further checking to do.

It sounds like checking your transmission fluid is in fact the proper thing to do. Did they say that there was any negative (wear debris) findings in the fluid?

Maybe they cleared the codes and it failed the drive test afterwards? If so, then I retract my eye roll of their diagnosis

Yes. Fiesta Ford. The service manager said the fluid was not burnt, but was not as fresh as he thought based on the low mileage (19,000 i recall). There are no other diagnostics available. No transmission issues from me, based on my driving it.

Thank you so much for looking at this as my wife is afraid to drive in the vehicle. I believe there has been no damage based on the fluid and lack of issues.

You never mentioned if your truck was actually towed……I’m assuming I that wasn’t done at all here. If I’m right, obviously there is no evidence in the fluid and your symptoms are a product of another malfunction. Hence the need to troubleshoot.

If your truck was towed improperly then I can understand why the dealer did the work they did and want you to pay out of pocket for a new tranny.

So which one is it?

I do use the Truck as my tow vehicle behind my RV. I'm not complaining about checking the fluid. The codes do not show any defect or malfunction except for the 179 code. The fluid checks out ok. According to the code description, there does not appear to be a malfunction. Re install fluid and I'm back on the road, but I still want to get rid of the code - PCM reset?

I do tow my F150, it is a 4 wheel drive and I'm supposed to tow four wheels down, neutral tow, everything off.

Picked up Truck yesterday. Had a PCM reset. Dealer test drove truck 20 miles and found no issues. I drove 30 miles and message never came back on.

End of story. Reset PCM. Refilled transmission fluid. Dealer said they extensively road tested vehicle and no faults, no sounds, no issues. I picked up my truck and have now driven 1000 miles since I took it to the dealer. Not a single fault, ,message or issue. Recall the dealer recommended i replace the transmission for $10,000.
