If it still is an issue after some time I would try another USB just to rule it out. Easy enough to copy the files over.

You not only now have the tools to bring your 2021 forward almost 4 years in software development, but have gotten off to a great start in doing so.
So the only thing you have to add to that mix is some patience!

You've already waited years.
Enjoy the truck and the progress. It'll come. Maybe sooner than later. It has recently for a handful of folks in exactly the same scenario.
...and a cold beer or two.

Can someone explain what you stand to gain by allowing updates? What was missed by not getting them?

The big thing for me is a more stable wireless CarPlay connection. Mine right now is kind of trash to be honest with you. The added bonus is getting features that Ford had promised years ago that my truck has never received because of bad software. Things like full screen CarPlay, navigation in your gauges, Alexa support, and I'm sure I'm missing a few other things too. It will also push updates to other modules not just the APIM for the center screen. Keep in mind my truck is running software from 2020 so hopefully you have most of those available in your truck already

It depends on what year the truck is. His is a 2021 stuck on software from 2020. There's a lot he is missing including over all improved system stability, functionality, drivability, features and the ability to enable extra features with FORScan live the newer Bluecruise (if equipped) and turn signal cameras while towing.

From a 2024? Arguably, not much.
From a 2023? A bit more, but still nothing earth shattering.

From a 2022? A much refined drivetrain from when it was first released. 2023/2024 came more polished.

From a 2021? The rest of the truck that wasn't ready at the time of manufacture. Probably the most complete contented trucks, but software was considerably rough around the edges.

For my stuck 2021 in April 2023.
Gained a decimal point on odometer.
Full screen android auto and car play.
Alexa.
All the available camera views while in motion.

The rest was just bug fixes that I didn't own truck long enough to experience.

Some other updates later I needed FDRS to install that fixed more bugs I never saw.

July 2024 I updated IPMA etc to gain the refined adaptive cruise and it is like a new truck.

For me, twice the FDRS process was well worth it.
In between I would not know or care what I was missing.

Funny thing is all my updates were held up because of the IPC unable to update OTA. It had nothing to do with APIM. Rugedraw went through this fun too. I'm happy Ford did whatever they did and fixed it though. December last year truck successfully installed IPC OTA update without me dragging out the cable.

Which update are you on now? Assuming you have BC 1.3 / 1.4 as well?

Once I got truck unstuck spring 2023 there was another IPC update that summer that required FDRS to install because my truck would still instantly fail. That update fixed the broken IPC issue for many of us with 2021 trucks and later updates installed without issues. I'm still not sure what was wrong but it was a common issue on forum.

I installed IPMA update for BC 1.3 in July because I was bored waiting for it to come OTA. ?

Turned out to be the best update I've done to my truck. I don't have Bluecruise, only adaptive, but it is so much better at controlling lane position. I don't have to fight the truck cruising down highway. I know people use weights on wheel to fake it, I don't. In old version that would make you look drunk from all the weaving if you let go of wheel for anything. I won't lie I have gone hands free a few times to open a soda or something and truck does great. I'll never trust it enough to do it full time even if I had Bluecruise.

Ford gave me Bluecruise free for a year. I still don't know what version of Bluecruise I have. I called OTA and they flat out told me that 2021 vehicles are not capable of OTA updates but receive updates via Sync ?

What does that even mean?

It means they don't know what they're talking about. Without FDRS, all 21-23 F150's have BC 1.0. If you have all the ADAS modules fully updates with FDRS, then FORScan can be used to enable new BC features like lane change assist. The updates needed for the IPMA/PSCM are not being sent OTA to any vehicle other than 22-23 Mach E's at this time.

Well at least you know that it's kicking off and attempting to apply the update. Twice already.

Try a new USB stick? Or USB drive? Maybe the USB C interface this time?

Yeah that might worth a shot. I might leave this one in a little bit longer but if it does it again I’m definitely trying a different usb drive. USB C might be worth a shot

What size have you been using?
I've been using 32 GB.
