According to the code section, that would be fine as long as you are not using a neutral bonded generator connected to house wiring through a neutral transfer switch which is unlikely a common use case for the entertainment industry. Funny you mentioned that the entertainment industry has...
Looks like it's true. Anyone using a neutral transfer switch to connect PP to their house wiring without connecting the truck frame/ground to its own ground rod is not compliant with the NEC per Section 250.34(B) (https://up.codes/s/portable-and-vehicle-mounted-generators).
Interesting video. The most notable thing to me in the video is actually that a separately derived system (e.g. PP with bonded neutral and neutral transfer switch connection to house) needs to have its own ground rod. I wonder if this is an actual NEC requirement for a portable generator. If...
Despite multiple requests, there has been no concrete explanation of how disconnected truck ground is less safe than just plugging loads into the truck. So, if you are not comfortable just plugging loads into the truck then disconnected ground may not be for you.
Another alternative is to use...
That's misleading since there is no grounding system to begin with as the truck body is not connected to earth (e.g. ground rod). Are you saying it's not safe to just plug loads into the truck?
What do you mean by "safety is removed"? How is it less safe than when you just have loads plugged into the truck (as Ford designed to do)? For context, the house wiring and loads are always grounded.
If the message went away after you reset it then it's likely that some moisture (from snow on the road?) got into the inverter connector under the truck and caused a nuisance GFCI trip. The PP GFCI is very sensitive.
Having done quite a bit of testing with Pro Power, I don't believe there is a big risk of smoke and fire. If you let PP be the master generator and use a *parallel* capable inverter generator as the secondary generator then it should work. That's the good news but it's unlikely to work for...
