Just in case anyone happens across this later, it ended up being some kind of short to battery going from the engine bay battery fuse panel to the BCM cable. Dealer diagnosed and replaced under Ford extended warranty.

Looks like this is just crappy reporting on a crappy picture. If you look at a couple of previous replies it looks like there’s no actual indication that it’s portrait orientation or moving the physical buttons.

Yikes, yes, I would hate that. I hate that the HVAC controls are in the Sync3 display in my 2018 Explorer, but at least there are hard buttons for them too. Hate that the only way to turn on the heated steering wheel is on the screen.

I’ve seen this issue too, but where did you enable the climate controls on the bottom of the touchscreen? Is that an option somewhere that I’ve missed or is it new with that update?
