It has been a long, LONG time since I looked at the battery charging algorithm. 80% seems low, especially if you do a lot of very short trips. The battery may never get to 100% SOC.
In general, modern vehicles like to be driven to "full operating temperature" (about 30 minutes of highway...
You should not have to do this ! If the battery is going dead after parking for less than 1 week, you either have a bad battery or there is a parasitic draw that needs to be fixed.
Driving to the airport SHOULD get the battery to 100% "state of charge".
There is a very small drain on the...
It has been many, MANY years since I have looked at the alternator voltage control algorithm ! (I wrote some of that software way back when !) I know it has changed since then. Originally there was no actual current measuring done. It was "calculated" by the algorithm.
I do no other brands...
There is a very sophisticated battery charging algorithm inside Powertrain control module that controls the alternator output voltage and therefore how quickly the battery is recharged.
For example, if you are continuously monitoring the voltage at the battery with a meter, you will see...
The park pawl test is very severe ! The vehicle drives up a special, VERY steep ramp and then is placed in park. It sits there for several minutes. This is actually a federal test (I worked in transmission engineering for a couple of years in the 1980s).
I some places (like San Francisco)...
The government tells auto companies several years in advance when there are new safety/emission requirements are coming.
It took the auto companies many, MANY years to pass the side impact test. Lots of failed crashes.
I worked in Ford Powertrain Engineering for 31 year before I left in the 2007 White Collar Exodus (30% of white collar retired 2/28/2007 !).
If you drove/rode in any US Ford product with EFI prior to about 2002, I wrote some of the software that ran those engines (EEC-I, EEC-II, EEC-III, EEC-IV...
After owning my 2022 F150 for over 2 year I was SHOCKED when I opened the driver door while still in Reverse and my foot on the brake and shift lever moved to Park ! Someone told me on Ford products with that silly round PRNDL selector, that it does the same thing !
Is this a new Federal...
New here, so if this better in a different sub-forum please move !
I have a 2022 F150 with the EcoBoost 2.7L and, overall, I am very happy with it. Impressive mileage even when pulling a 20' boat !
I was shocked the first time I looked under the hood to see it had electric/electronic power...
