I think he's a little frustrated from dealing with the Ford dealer.? If you are asking how to check if you aren't up to date, you can go to help.ford.com/update-sync/ and put in your VIN. It will tell you if you are up to date.

Just checked mine. It's on my dashboard. Doesn't look like there is a fix yet.

I do not. Just use the arrow but don't go into manual. The down arrow will start reducing the number of gears. The up arrow will add. Unfortunately you have to remember to do it every time.

The style @dhrandy showed are definitely the best, but they come with a heavy price tag. I got this one on Amazon for less than 200.00. Fits very well. I had one on my tacoma as well, and they are fairly durable and waterproof.
