Mine started leaking for a 4th (or 5th?) time about 300 miles after the last repair. Traded it for an AT4x 6.2, MUCH better truck in my opinion. I know all the half tons today are basically turds and each has its problems. But I’ll say the high trim GMC trucks have ford beat on interior quality...
Well I got about 350 miles out of my 3rd seal replacement. Going back to the dealer next month for its 4th seal. Sounds like it’s time to look at the AT4X
Same boat on the frustration part. I had planned to write a check for the balance on mine and buy a dark horse and trailer for racing season since my f150 would be perfect towing it but now I’m just going to buy a new truck. Really annoying
yeah I think I’m getting an at4x probably after the issues I’ve had with mine. Not real crazy about writing a big pay off check for a truck that’s going to give me problems the rest of its life.
It’s been pretty coated both times I caught it but it appears to be leaking from what I assume is between the mating surface and the seal. I put a photo and arrow in an attempt to show it
I believe this exact sequence you describe happened to me. Based on the service records:
2/24/25 - replaced seal, locking nut, and added grease. Got truck back, whining/roaring rear differential. Took truck back to deal on the following date.
3/14/25 - replacement parts were cup, 3 bearing...
Mine was the same way. First seal had a decent drip puddling in my garage floor. Second one I caught before it got that bad. I may just watch it to see how it holds up closer to warranty expiration and make a call at that point.
So we’ve either got a bad design, bad run of parts, or incompetence in the technician making the repair. Or some combination of all three. Is this problem giving any of you pause when considering long term ownership?
I was planning to pay my truck off in a lump sum and drive it for as long as...
