Short Question: When I leave the engine running and close the driver or passenger door, the truck honks twice. Does anyone know if that can be turned off?

Long Explanation: I use the truck to drop off kiddos at daycare in the morning, around 7am. The building is in a very residential area, and the drop off area is actually an alley between the building and some houses. It's the midwest, so weather is extreme, and I like to leave the truck running to keep HVAC and heated wheel/seats going. When I close the driver door, the truck honks twice. I'm not crazy about honking in someone's back yard at 7am. I thought I could outsmart the truck and leave the driver door ajar to prevent the honking. However, the kid's stuff (they have five tote bags between the two of them with winter gear, nap time stuff and e-learning stuff due to Covid) is in the front passenger seat, and when you close that door, the truck still honks.

Just don't close the door tight or leave the second fob inside when you're doing your errands. It's to remind you that you didn't shut it off and walk away. It could be easy to do with the Powerboost when it's on but in electric mode.

Just not closing the door doesn't work, as explained above. Also not going to leave a fob in a $65k truck no matter how safe the area feels or quick the stop is. I understand why it's there (although I think it's pretty dubious that you would somehow not notice two large lcd screens are still on or that the very obvious turn off animations haven't played), but I'm really just looking to see if it can be turned off.

Then you're going to have to suck it up and shut it off. It's not just Ford that does this.....

I know why they do it, but I don't understand why it has to be so so loud/the horn. My Tacoma makes three chime/beeps when you exit in that situation. It is not extremely loud and isn't distracting to others, but it does get the drivers attention if you know to listen for it.

Agreed. Our Odyssey just chirps, which is fine. The horn is obnoxious. Wish they'd let you choose horn/chirp/off in the settings.

Use forscan or turn the truck off or get used to the double honk.

Does forscan have any ramifications on warranty?

The general consensus is that it does not (although some may pose arguments to the contrary). In any case, the first thing I recommend doing if you're going to make any changes is to backup your default profile - you can always reset all modules to original settings in the future if needed.

Many of the modules are not yet accessible (only BCM & IPC are, to my knowledge), but more should come soon as the devs get more time on the new gens. I was able to disable the double-honk, enable "bambi mode", and change the fob panic button to double-press with no issues. That's about as adventurous as I'm willing to be until I see more owner feedback with other tuning.

Great information, thank you.

Is Bambi mode basically valet mode?

Also - I have a wifi OBDII reader. In a basic search, there is a iOS (iPhone) app Forscan lite. I don’t see a full featured Forscan iOS app though. Should there be, or is this a stand-alone reader that I should buy?

"Bambi mode" refers to having the ability to run your high beams AND fog lights simultaneously. The factory setting will kill your fogs when highs are active. Good for unlit, rural driving.

I've never used the "lite" version of forscan, but my understanding is that app will allow you to READ module settings only (not EDIT them). The full software can be downloaded from forscan.org and will run on Windows only. Make sure you get the latest version, as it is the only one that is currently working with the 2021's. You'll also have to generate a license key on that same site... you can get a "temporary" one for free, or pay for a "lifetime" version if you plan to use it a lot or want to support the devs.

As for the reader, I use the OBDLink MXII, which connects to the PC via Bluetooth. There's a bunch of options out there, both wired and wireless, but there seems to be a very steep "get what you pay for" curve in terms of connection issues and such. I suspect the "wifi" you refer to may actually be Bluetooth connectivity, so as long as you have access to a windows laptop or tablet that also has Bluetooth you should be good to go. It's not the most intuitive software by any means, but there's a ton of great walkthroughs out there in communities like this one. I stick to generally "basic" tweaks (no engine tuning, etc.)... I'm a bit too chicken to mess around with anything more involved!

@2AActuary here are links to the latest FORscan software download and an awesome tutorial for getting started. I take zero credit for this info; user "Livinitup" on another forum is pretty much an authority on this software and its use on the F150. He also maintains a spreadsheet with all module settings that are known to be editable (there's not much listed at this time since the gen14's apparently have a lot of backend differences from the older lines).

This is the OBD reader I use. It seems to be the most recommended and works perfectly on all my vehicles, but to be fair - I've never tried any others. I grabbed mine from Amazon for a lot less (around $60 I think) years ago... not sure if this link is overpriced or if it's just inflation, but you might want to shop around a bit! When I bought mine, it came with free F150-specific modules for the OBDLink iOS app which is a cool toy. It also works with other mobile apps, but again - only to READ data (not WRITE to make changes). For my 2018, I had configured a dashboard I'd use when towing to show real-time data for gear, torque, engine load, etc. that was pretty handy (no longer needed with my new truck ).
